SO THIS DUCK...

I bought it from MINISO and it has kind of just followed me through life. It’s name is 鸭片 (Yapian- its a pun in Chinese that is hard to translate effectively Ying Ying might get it). I used it in several of my profile pictures and I think it reminds people of me.

Implementing the Design

I can show I’m an energetic person with too many exclamation points. That D is also there for Duck, not Daniel.

Applying the Design

I modeled it in Solidworks. This is what I want it to look like.

Prototyping : Round 1

Small Things

I laser cut the small details and glued them down. Then drilled my holes to help the vacuum.

Big Things

I carved him out of blue foam.

Getting ready to vacuum form.

I covered the blue foam in plaster so I could vacuum form with it. The texture was really rough but I was able to sand the plaster without it falling off.

First Vacuum Form.

My first vacuum form was horrifying. The texture of the plaster imprinted much more than I thought it would and the double stacked exclamation points were barely distinguishable. I needed to make a couple changes to my mold.
