Challenge

Reimage single use plastic articles (plates, bowls, cups, lids) commonly used in Quick Service Restaurants and other Food Service Environments

Constraints

  • Utilize thermoforming to create the product
  • Wall thickness after thermoforming must be between .004″ and .010″ in order to remain compostable in an industrial composting facility

Thermoforming

Lid and bottom are able to nest together.

The indention on the lid allows them to also stack, aiding multiple containers to stack on top of each other.

Recommendations

  • Add ridges/indents closer to connection areas to reduce flexing and add strength
  • Texture to the tab area and lip for easier grip when opening and closing container
