Redefining Door handles

Using bluefoam to Understand and re-imagine the Everyday door handle

Introduction

Something so simple can also be so unique. Door handles can range from small circular knobs to thick, industrial grade handles on large door. No matter the shape or reason for the design, door handles allow designers to be very creative in their designs while being minimal in material and cost. As a designer, I attempted to design door handles that were simple and unique, while also making sure to keep user practicality in mind.

Original

This is the original design that the other handles were based off of. It has simple curves and a traditional handle shape. These handles often are made of steel or aluminum and are fairly simple in makeup. One aspect I decided to explore was the use of different materials to highlight transition. By coupling wood and metal together, I was able to enforce a modern look onto the handle.
